Finding us using Public Transport
The Society is easily reached from the Newcastle Interchange. The most direct route is the Number 12 bus (to Maryland). Exit the bus at Morehead Street (The Mark Hotel). Walk down the hill to Elder Street and turn left. The Mechanics' Institute is approximately 100 metres along Elder Street on your left marked by the red star.
Our rooms are also easily reached using the Number 23 bus (to Jesmond) or the Number 11 bus (from Charlestown). Exit either bus from the stop nearest Lambton Public School, cross Croudace Street if necessary and walk three blocks along Elder Street. The Number 23 bus can also drop you at the Lambton Park Hotel in Howe Street where you cross the road and walk up Morehead Street to Elder Street and turn right. These walks are virtually flat.
